Recycling by Al Wadaq

Al Wadaq is committed to recycling and green initiatives. We have established comprehensive links with Africa, Europe and Asia to reduce world waste, and help people across the world with affordable good quality clothing.
We believe recycling should:
That is why we have placed over 3,000 easily accessible and identifiable, well-designed and professionally managed recyclers in neighborhoods across the UAE. Full banks are emptied by Al Wadaq’s own fleet and returned to Al Wadaq’s warehouses.
The contents are weighed and the value is allocated to the council or waste management company. Items are then sorted into different types of clothing, shoes and textiles. Al Wadaq uses predetermined categories to ensure that the best use is made of re-used and recycled garments, so that they can be delivered to the most appropriate locations worldwide.
Once separated into these categories, items are tightly packed and wrapped in protective transport bags. Parcels are labelled and stored in Al Wadaq’s extensive warehousing facilities before being dispatched for shipping.

Benefits of Recycling

Ninety-nine percent of used textiles are recyclable. Textile and clothing recycling can give old clothes, linens, and other textiles a second life. Recycling provides some much needed assistance to third world nations. Almost half of all post-consumer textile waste that is recovered is recycled to be used as second hand clothing.
It is due to recycling that some of the world’s poorest nations are able to clothes their people. Recycling helps to provide the millions of poor in third world countries with usable clothing they may not otherwise be able to afford. When you recycle your old clothing that you might have otherwise thrown away it can be used by someone else who desperately needs it. This benefits both you and the environment.
Synthetic fiber products will not decompose in the landfill. Woolen garments do decompose but they also produce methane which contributes to global warming. Recycled clothing does not require the use of new textile resources such as cotton or wool. Raw materials created from recycled content generally cost less, making their use attractive and desirable to manufacturers. This in turn leads to the development of more markets for reclaimed fibers. Recycling saves on energy consumption when processing. Items do not need to be re-dyed or scoured. Unlike raw wool, reclaimed fibers do not have to be thoroughly washed using large volumes of water.
